A radio clearance authorizing the attacking aircraft to engage a designated target or group of targets with some tactical flexibility. "Cleared to Engage" often implies broader permission than "Cleared Hot," allowing the flight to decide specific attack geometry, timing, or sequencing within agreed constraints.
It is commonly used in type 3 CAS or in engagements where the controller cannot observe every individual attack but still controls the overall engagement area.

Application in DCS World

In DCS multiplayer, human controllers may use "Cleared to Engage" when they want pilots to work a target area or group of targets without requiring a separate "Cleared Hot" for each pass. AI does not distinguish these phrases in a doctrinal way.
Cadets should understand that "Cleared to Engage" means they are authorized to prosecute the target set within given restrictions, maintaining situational awareness and deconfliction while they work the engagement.
