A parking area is the designated part of an airfield where aircraft are stopped and parked on the ground when they are not taxiing, taking off, or landing. It’s where you’ll typically find parking spots / stands / hardstands and where most aircraft start and end a sortie.
What it includes:
- Marked parking spots (numbers, lines, sometimes shelters)
- Tie-down or shelter areas (real-world), hardstands, revetments (military)
- The space used for shutdown, startup, refuel, rearm, and inspections
How it relates to other terms:
- Parking area is usually part of the ramp/apron (the broader surface area used for ground handling).
- Ramp / Apron = the whole servicing/ground-handling area
- Parking area = the specific portion used primarily for parking aircraft
Application in DCS World:
In DCS, the parking area is:
- Where you spawn in Cold, Warm, or Hot
- Where ground crew services happen (rearm/refuel, ground power, etc.)
- Where you start moving from when you request taxi and roll toward the taxiway system
