A brevity call announcing the launch of a semi-active radar-guided air-to-air missile (typically AIM-7 Sparrow or equivalent). The missile requires the launching aircraft to maintain radar illumination of the target until impact.
Used for situational awareness, deconfliction, and ensuring friendly units understand the type of missile in flight.
Application in DCS World
Aircraft such as the F-14 and F/A-18C can employ Fox 1 weapons. Multiplayer flights should always call “Fox 1” on SRS to prevent confusion and to alert friendlies of radar-dependent missile shots.
